First Week in Amarillo

We have officially lived in Amarillo for a full week, and it has certainly been a busy one. We dove in feet first at experiencing many of the fun things to do in Amarillo.

Last Friday afternoon, we unloaded and unpacked at our temporary house, a missionary house that belongs to the church. We then decided unanimously to eat dinner at Blue Sky, a great burger place at I-40 and Western. We recommend burgers, onion rings, and milkshakes.

Saturday, we took time from our house hunting to go see the movie Up which we all enjoyed. The boys have been quoting the scene when Russell first knocks on Mr. Frederickson's door.

After a great day at church on Sunday, we joined many of the staff families at Wendy's for a great time of fellowship to give our coming week a jump start.

James and Jeffery were busy this week with Ramblin Rec Camp, a day camp for K-3rd graders full of games, songs, skits, and field trips. William and I enjoyed our relaxing mornings at home watching TV (while I slept in) and then playing games, but we also joined the campers on their field trips to Jump N Jive (bouncing place), Discovery Center (science museum), and West Texas A&M swimming center (complete with water slide and lazy river)! On top of all of those fun things, the church sponsored a family fun Wednesday night to Wonderland amusement park! We have had such a fun week and we even found time for a trip to the local pool and to bake chocolate chip cookies.

Our house in Burleson has not sold YET, and the missionary house where we are staying is needed for missionaries coming at the beginning of July. After much searching and praying, we have decided on a townhouse in a great neighborhood but with only two bedrooms and one living area. The boys will have to learn to share a bedroom, and we will all have to learn to live in smaller quarters but hopefully only for a year.

All in all it has truly been a great first week in Amarillo! We have appreciated all the prayers lifted up for us during this transition and covet your continued prayer support.

  3. Peggy, sounds like a fun start to your new life. When you get a chance send address, phone, etc. We are coming up there sometime this summer. Will talk with you about it. Take care of you and our boys. Still praying that God will send the perfect people to Burleson that need a house. Love you all, Aunt JOan
